The China-U.S. relationship needs to be recalibrated, said William Zarit, chairman of American Chamber of Commerce in China, adding that statesmanship is required.
"I do not believe there will be a 'new Cold War' between the two powers. The two countries have great economic, trade and financial interdependence. Personally, I believe the two countries can resolve their differences through dialogue, as they have cooperated in the past," Maggiorelli said.
But its efforts to sow discord are likely to fail, noted Maggiorelli, because "the United States no longer has as much power as before, and European, Asian, African and Latin American countries want to cooperate with both countries and maintain peaceful relations."
On Aug. 4, the Chinese side sent updated proposals concerning the joint inspections to the PCAOB based on the latest needs and ideas of the U.S. side, it said.
The supplies are due to arrive in Laos by the end of August.

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that gross interference in Hong Kong affairs undermines "one country, two systems."
Spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the comment at a press briefing in response to a question on Philippine Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana's recent remarks on the South China Sea and bilateral relations. Calling such attempts unpopular, Wang said some countries outside the region are trying to stir up trouble and create tension in the region, which go against the will of the regional countries.
"We still need to increase testing abilities," Mahdi said. "The testing rate needs to be at least five or ten percent of our 40 million population in order to detect more and more cases."
"Ultimately, they want to drag China and the United States into renewed conflict and confrontation and plunge the world into chaos and division again," he added.
