1.【址:a g 9 559⒐ v i p】1"Oh," she stammered. "How--how are you?"
2.The first night she spent in her attic was a thing Sara never forgot. During its passing she lived through a wild, unchildlike woe of which she never spoke to anyone about her. There was no one who would have understood. It was, indeed, well for her that as she lay awake in the darkness her mind was forcibly distracted, now and then, by the strangeness of her surroundings. It was, perhaps, well for her that she was reminded by her small body of material things. If this had not been so, the anguish of her young mind might have been too great for a child to bear. But, really, while the night was passing she scarcely knew that she had a body at all or remembered any other thing than one.
3."Would you like to see Emily?" she inquired.
4."Don't put on grand airs," she said. "The time for that sort of thing is past. You are not a princess any longer. Your carriage and your pony will be sent away--your maid will be dismissed. You will wear your oldest and plainest clothes--your extravagant ones are no longer suited to your station. You are like Becky-- you must work for your living."
5.Sara stood silent for a second.
6."I didn't go to do it, miss," protested Becky. "It was the warm fire--an' me bein' so tired. It--it WASN'T imper{}ence!"

计划指导

1.Both Sara and Ermengarde heard the slap, and then heard Becky run in her slipshod shoes up the stairs and into her attic. They heard her door shut, and knew that she threw herself upon her bed.
2.She made a sound like a big breathless sob.
3."Oh, it isn't true!" she said. "It CAN'T be true! But oh, how true it seems!"
4.In a corner lay a package so insignificant-looking that it had been overlooked, and when she herself had found it she had kept it as a relic. It contained a dozen small white handkerchiefs. She seized them joyfully and ran to the table. She began to arrange them upon the red table-cover, patting and coaxing them into shape with the narrow lace edge curling outward, her Magic working its spells for her as she did it.
5.Miss Amelia was bewildered.
6."He wants me to read them," said Ermengarde, a little discouraged by this unexpected turn of affairs.

推荐功能

1."I don't know whether I CAN>, answered Sara, still in her half-whisper; "but I will try."
2."I BELIEVE I could," she said. "If one was a beggar, one would have to suppose and pretend all the time. But it mightn't be easy."
3.The little children broke into a rueful murmur, and Ermengarde looked aghast.
4."I don't like it, papa," she said. "But then I dare say soldiers-- even brave ones--don't really LIKE going into bat{tle}."
5. "I always was a thin child," she said bravely, "and I always had big green eyes."
6."Don't put on grand airs," she said. "The time for that sort of thing is past. You are not a princess any longer. Your carriage and your pony will be sent away--your maid will be dismissed. You will wear your oldest and plainest clothes--your extravagant ones are no longer suited to your station. You are like Becky-- you must work for your living."

应用

1."He--he won't run out quickly and jump on the bed, will he?" she said.
2."I shall pretend that," she said; "and it will be a great comfort."
3."Oh, Sara!" she exclaimed, endeavoring to produce a suitable smile.
4、"Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!" Lottle howled tempestuously. "Haven't--got--any--mam--ma-a!"
5、Ermengarde gave a little jump backward. The last sentences had recalled something to her troubled mind and given her a sudden inspiration.

"Keep it, then," said the woman. "It may have been there for a week, and goodness knows who lost it. YOU could never find out."

"Well," she said at last, "perhaps--perhaps that is because Lavinia is GROWING>." This was the result of a charitable recollection of having heard Miss Amelia say that Lavinia was growing so fast that she believed it affected her health and temper.

The truth was that, as the days had gone on and, with the aid of scraps brought up from the kitchen, her curious friendship had developed, she had gradually forgotten that the timid creature she was becoming familiar with was a mere rat.

Sara hugged her close and tried to laugh. There was a sort of comfort in the warmth of the plump, childish body. She had had a hard day and had been staring out of the windows with hot eyes.

{I was a-'pretendin',' miss," she answered a little sheepishly; "I was tryin' to see it like you do. I almost did," with a hopeful grin. "But it takes a lot o' stren'th."

"Any diamond mines?" ejaculated Miss Minchin, catching at the back of a chair and feeling as if a splendid dream was fading away from her.

"You are to sleep in the attic next to Becky."

"But she is so tired," she thought. "She is so tired!"

{"If I WAS a princess--a REAL princess," she murmured, "I could scatter largess to the populace. But even if I am only a pretend princess, I can invent little things to do for people. Things like this. She was just as happy as if it was largess. I'll pretend that to do things people like is scattering largess. I've scattered largess."

Monsieur Dufarge arrived very shortly afterward. He was a very nice, intelligent, middle-aged Frenchman, and he looked interested when his eyes fell upon Sara trying politely to seem absorbed in her little book of phrases.
